Frequently Asked Questions
Setup guides, live hosting, presentations, player apps and troubleshooting — all in one place.
Getting started
Installation, first login and what you need before quiz night.
QuizBrothers Pro is a complete system for creating, hosting and scoring live quiz nights. The quiz server runs on your Windows PC, players answer on Android and iOS apps, and you control the show from one connected workflow — from question creation to final rankings.
Demo mode lets you test the quiz server with up to 2 player devices plus a presenter device. It is ideal for trying the workflow, checking your Wi-Fi setup and preparing your first quiz before unlocking a full event with a credit.
You need the QuizBrothers Pro server on a Windows PC, the player apps on team phones, and a screen or projector for the presenter view. For more than 2 players, activate a credit in My Account before the event. We also recommend a stable LAN connection from the host PC to the router.
Download the quiz server and player apps from the Download page. After creating an account, you can also access installers and updates from My Account on the website.
Some antivirus tools or Windows SmartScreen may flag a new installer. Allow the scan to finish and continue if you downloaded from QuizBrothers. If SmartScreen blocks the file, close the dialog, right-click the installer → Properties → check Unblock, then run it again.
The live quiz server is built for Windows. Player apps are available for Android and iOS. Use a Windows laptop or PC as the host machine for presentation and scoring.
How to start a live quiz
Step-by-step guides for local Wi-Fi hosting and online PIN sessions.
1) Sign in under My Account and activate a credit if you need more than 2 players.
2) Main menu → Settings → Network — set the Wi-Fi network name teams will use (default: QuizBrothers) and save.
3) Main menu → Present — select your season and location, then click Start local server.
4) On player phones: Settings → enter the same Wi-Fi name → Save → Connect via Wi-Fi → enter team name → Connect.
5) Click Start presentation, choose your deck and run it (press ESC to close). Use a second monitor, TV or projector for the room.
6) Wait for teams to appear, click Send quiz and wait for green checkmarks on every team.
7) Move the presentation to the first question, read it to the room, then press Num 0 — the quiz starts on phones and QUIZSHOW opens on the host.
Tip: Connect the host PC to the router with a LAN cable. The presenter can join as !Presenter — this device is hidden from scoring and rankings.
1) Main menu → Present → Turn on online server and wait for the PIN screen.
2) Use Show PIN / Hide PIN to control when the code is visible to the room.
3) Teams open the player app and join using the PIN — they do not need to be on the same local Wi-Fi.
4) When the server is running, click Start presentation, select your deck and launch it (ESC to close).
5) Follow the same live flow as Wi-Fi mode: Send quiz → wait for checkmarks → first question → Num 0 to start.
PIN mode is ideal when teams are remote or when venue Wi-Fi cannot be shared across all devices.
The green-highlighted buttons guide you through the recommended flow: start the server (local or online), launch the presentation, wait for teams, send the quiz, confirm checkmarks, then start the round with Num 0. You can adapt the order when you know the workflow, but following the highlighted steps reduces mistakes on quiz night.
Send quiz pushes the quiz file to all connected teams. Each team should show two confirmations (quiz received). When every connected team has a green checkmark, Start quiz becomes available. Only then move to the first question and press Num 0.
Yes. In Present → Load saved quiz state restores the last saved progress (typically the last evaluated question). The server saves state continuously during the event. Restart the app, reload the state, and continue from there.
Quizzes & presentations
Creating questions, building slides and customizing your show.
Main menu → Create quiz, enter a name and add questions. Choose from seven question types (classic ABCD, text/number, matching, ordering, closest-number, multi-classic and mix). You can add hints, sub-questions, tie-breakers, images, descriptions and scoring options to each question.
Classic (ABCD), Text / Number, Matching, Ordering, Closest answer, Multi-classic (several ABCD sub-questions in one) and Mix (combination of classic, text and number in one question). Each type supports flexible scoring — including partial credit, hidden point values and tie-break decimals for closest-number rounds.
When your quiz is ready, go to Quizzes → Create presentation. QuizBrothers automatically generates a slide deck from your quiz structure and template. You can edit the result, reorder slides and prepare the show before going live.
Yes. Open Settings → Presentation to adjust default text colors, font sizes, backgrounds, the intro slide, transition slides, break videos and other visual defaults. Your presentation inherits these settings so every quiz night can match your venue branding.
Yes. The built-in presentation workflow supports images (JPG, PNG, WEBP), animated GIFs, videos, slide effects and live ranking graphs. You can build a complete show inside QuizBrothers without switching to external tools. If you prefer PowerPoint, that is supported too — note that some PowerPoint animations and GIF playback may behave differently when focus changes.
Yes. On the Quizzes tab, click Import quiz and select a downloaded .qbpack file. Imported quizzes can be edited, turned into presentations and used in live events like any quiz you create yourself.
Credits & pricing
Event-based access — no monthly subscription required.
One credit unlocks QuizBrothers Pro for 24 hours. During that window you can run a full live event with unlimited player devices, use the complete presenter workflow and connect teams through Wi-Fi or PIN.
No monthly subscription is required for the standard credit model. Activate a credit when you need to run a professional quiz night. For schools, companies or institutions that need recurring billing, contact us.
Create an account, visit the Shop, choose a credit pack and complete checkout. Credits are linked to your QuizBrothers account and appear in the desktop app under My Account.
Credits are added after your order is completed. If you pay by card, this is usually immediate. Refresh My Account in the desktop app if you do not see them right away.
No. Notifications do not require an active 24-hour unlock. The quizmaster only needs at least one purchased credit on the account to send team notifications and upload teams, locations and statistics.
Mobile apps & players
What teams need on their phones during the event.
QuizBrothers player apps are available for Android and iOS. Install the latest version before quiz night for the best connection and reconnect handling.
Players join the live session from the app — they do not need a separate paid account for a standard quiz night. The quizmaster account controls the event from the server.
Yes — we recommend extending the screen timeout on player phones during the quiz. If a display turns off mid-round, the app may disconnect or trigger anti-cheat alerts even when no one is trying to cheat.
Yes. During supported question types, the presenter can push hints, 50:50 lifelines and break rankings to phones in real time from QUIZSHOW.
Player apps are built for real quiz nights and handle brief disconnects. Teams can reconnect to the same session. If a device is stuck, see the Troubleshooting section below.
Troubleshooting
Fast fixes for frozen apps, connection issues and live-show recovery.
If a team cannot tap, scroll or submit an answer, fully close the app and reopen it, then reconnect to the session.
Android: open Recents (the three-line / square overview button) and swipe the QuizBrothers card off the screen.
iOS: swipe up from the bottom-left corner to open the app switcher, then swipe the QuizBrothers card away.
After relaunch, the team joins again through Wi-Fi or PIN as usual. From the host, Present → Reset phones to home screen sends all devices back to the waiting screen if you need a clean state for the whole room.
Confirm the Wi-Fi network name matches in host Settings → Network and on every player phone. Make sure the local server is running (red button state) and that you activated a credit if more than 2 devices are joining. If connections still fail, run the host app as administrator and use Present → Configure firewall rules and Set network to private. For PIN mode, verify the online server is active and teams enter the current PIN.
In Present → Reset phones to home screen returns every connected device to the initial waiting screen. In QUIZSHOW, the lightning icon does the same instantly — useful if you accidentally started the wrong quiz.
Not necessarily. The apps monitor screen overlay, wrong network, split-screen and similar signals. A notification, accidental swipe of the status bar or screen lock can also trigger an alert. Always verify with the team before penalizing points.
Yes. Set PowerPoint to Browsed by an individual (window) mode, then in QuizBrothers use Present → Remove PowerPoint window to expand it full screen. Keep in mind that videos and animated GIFs in PowerPoint may not play reliably when PowerPoint loses focus during live scoring.
